How to use webcams to plan your ski day

Live webcams do not replace the weather report, but they are the most direct way to understand real conditions on the slopes. One minute of webcam tells you things no report can: how busy the chairlift is, whether the snow is powder or icy, if there is fog at altitude, if the slopes are crowded. Before leaving in the morning, always check the webcam at 8:30-9:00 for an overview of opening conditions.

Summit webcams vs valley webcams

There are two types of webcams at resorts: valley ones (from towns, parking areas) and summit ones (from lift arrival stations, mountain huts). The former are useful for access and traffic conditions; the latter are the truly useful ones for assessing snow. A resort with little snow at the base can have excellent conditions at altitude. When possible, favor webcams positioned above 1800-2000m.

Resorts with the best webcam coverage

The resorts with the most comprehensive webcam coverage in Italy are generally the large networks in the north: Dolomiti Superski, Via Lattea, Monterosa Ski and the Aosta Valley resorts. Alta Badia and Val Gardena have webcams at regular intervals across all main sectors. Cortina d'Ampezzo, ahead of the 2026 Olympics, has enhanced its network with high-resolution cameras on the Olympic slopes of the Tofane.
