How to read the map
Each marker is a ski resort listed on Funivie.it. When you zoom out, nearby markers are grouped into numbered clusters: click a cluster to zoom in on the area and see the individual resorts. Click a marker to open the resort page, with technical data, webcams and the weather forecast. For whether the lifts are open, please check the official websites linked from each resort page.
Where Italy's ski resorts are
Italy has more than 100 active ski resorts, mostly along the Alps (Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-South Tyrol, Veneto, Friuli) and, to a lesser extent, in the Apennines (Abruzzo, Calabria, Sicily). They are most densely packed in the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the Dolomiti Superski circuit links 12 ski areas with more than 1,200 km of slopes. Next come the western Alps, with the Via Lattea and the cross-border Courmayeur-Chamonix area.
Cross-border ski areas
Some Italian ski areas let you ski on both sides of the border. Cervinia links with Zermatt in Switzerland via the Plateau Rosà at 3,488 m. The Via Lattea reaches Montgenèvre in France through Claviere. La Thuile is linked with La Rosière in France, for 152 km in total. 3 Cime Dolomiti includes the Austrian side at Sillian. For these areas you need an identity document valid for travel abroad, even though border checks on the slopes are rare.
