Madonna di Campiglio: Ski area guide

Madonna di Campiglio is the most exclusive winter resort in Trentino. It sits between the Brenta Dolomites and the Presanella, high enough to guarantee good snow all season. It is more than a ski resort: it is a brand and an identity, a benchmark for anyone who wants alpine excellence without compromise.

The ski area

With 150 km of runs, Campiglio is part of the large Skirama Dolomiti circuit, which links it with Folgarida and Marilleva to form one of the biggest ski offers in Trentino.

The runs favour intermediate and advanced skiers, mostly blues and reds groomed with meticulous care. Snowmaking covers the most critical altitudes, but with peaks close to 2,500 metres the natural snow is excellent from mid-December until well into April. Fifty-eight lifts spread across the area mean waiting times all but disappear on low-season days.

The 3Tre run and the World Cup

Every December the 3Tre run puts the Brenta Dolomites in the global spotlight, when it hosts the men’s World Cup slalom: a night race broadcast around the world. The name comes from the original historic course, which had three tight left-hand turns that tested even the most experienced champions.

Today the race is much more than a sporting event. It is a society occasion that draws international sports stars, media from all over the world and a wealthy crowd who fill the hotels in the centre. The atmosphere that week, with lights, music and fans pressed against the safety nets, cannot be recreated anywhere else, and on its own it is worth the trip to Campiglio.

Status and clientele

Madonna di Campiglio has deliberately positioned itself at the top of the market. Prices are among the highest in Trentino, and the clientele reflects that: affluent families, Italian and international VIPs, and regulars of the big alpine resorts who choose Campiglio for its mix of service and discretion.

Accommodation ranges from traditional four-star hotels to luxury suites looking straight onto the Brenta towers, as well as design-led boutique hotels that have given the village a new look in recent years.

The village centre

The village has kept an intimate scale that sets it clearly apart from Cortina d’Ampezzo: less hectic and more personal, with a well-kept pedestrian area lined with technical and sportswear boutiques, restaurants serving updated Trentino cooking and historic bars frequented by generations of regular guests.

Après-ski is mainly in the bars next to the lifts. It picks up in the late afternoon and carries on into the evening on race nights and during special events.

When to go

The official season runs from December to April. Conditions are best between January and mid-March, when the snow is most stable and the midday sun does not yet spoil the snowpack.

World Cup week in December has a unique atmosphere, but prices hit their yearly peak. If you can choose your dates, you will get better value in January.

Getting there

From Trento the main route is the SS239, about 1 hour 20 minutes in normal conditions. From Milan, take the A22 motorway to the Trento Nord exit, about three hours in total.

There is no direct rail link, so the car remains the most practical option. In peak weeks, though, Trentino Trasporti runs shuttle buses from Trento, so you can leave the car at the bottom and avoid the valley traffic.
