Mount Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe, and its cable car is one of the most unusual lifts in the world: the only one built on a volcano that still erupts. Running a lift in such extreme conditions takes specific volcanological knowledge and dedicated safety procedures.
Over the decades Etna’s eruptions have damaged the lift several times, forcing partial or complete rebuilds: proof of how hard it is to operate in such an unpredictable place.
