Pinzolo - Madonna di Campiglio gondola

Few lifts in the Italian Alps have done more to bring two mountain communities together than the Pinzolo - Madonna di Campiglio gondola, which has transformed travel and tourism in the Val Rendena.

Opened in 2016, this latest-generation Doppelmayr gondola is much more than a way up the mountain. In just a few years it has become a backbone of the whole ski area, linking, physically and symbolically, two places that were close on the map but separate in practice until it opened.

Pinzolo is a lively valley town with its own identity and a long history of tourism. Madonna di Campiglio is the most elegant and cosmopolitan of Trentino’s ski resorts. The gondola gives them a direct link that has greatly widened the options for both.

Views of the Brenta Dolomites

The cabins seat ten passengers each and have large panoramic windows. On the way you get a superb view of the Brenta Dolomites, the mountain group that dominates this part of western Trentino.

The Brenta Dolomites are the only Dolomite group lying entirely west of the Adige valley. In 2009 they were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with the other Dolomite groups further east, for their exceptional scenery and geological value.

Seen from the gondola on the way up, the towers, spires and sheer walls of the massif stand out dramatically against the sky, a striking preview of what awaits summer hikers and winter skiers once they reach the ski area.

Madonna di Campiglio

Madonna di Campiglio is one of the most distinguished and popular ski destinations in Italy, with roots in the Central European aristocracy of the 19th century. Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria and his wife Sisi came here to hunt and to rest in summer, helping to build the resort’s reputation as an elite destination that has lasted unchanged for decades.

Today Campiglio, as regulars call it, draws a sophisticated international crowd who value the quality of the slopes, the fine food, the architecture of its hotels and the lively social scene during the ski season.

The gondola from Pinzolo has opened the resort to visitors staying down in the valley, greatly widening its reach without changing the exclusive character of the resort at the top.

Skirama Dolomiti Adamello Brenta

The gondola is a key link in the Skirama Dolomiti Adamello Brenta ski area, which covers more than 150 kilometres of connected slopes between Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo and Folgarida-Marilleva.

It is one of the largest ski areas in Trentino, with a wide technical range that suits both families with children and advanced skiers looking for challenging, steep terrain. Thanks to the gondola between Pinzolo and Campiglio, you can ski the whole length of the area in ideal conditions. Without it, you would face much longer and less convenient trips by car.

The 3Tre World Cup slalom

Madonna di Campiglio also hosts one of the most eagerly awaited alpine skiing World Cup events of the season: the 3Tre, the men’s slalom held on the steep Canalone Miramonti slope.

Every year the race draws the world’s best slalom skiers, big crowds and heavy media coverage, turning the Trentino resort into an international stage for some of the most spectacular performances of the World Cup season. The gondola helps with race logistics, making it easier for athletes, coaches and spectators to move between Pinzolo and Campiglio on race days.

In winter the gondola also runs in the evening for night skiing on some floodlit slopes, very popular with skiers who want to stay on the mountain after sunset.
