Three kilometres from the centre of Campiglio, towards the Campo Carlo Magno pass, is an alternative area that is very appealing for skiers. Here the road opens onto a plateau with several hotels right on the slopes: genuine ski-in/ski-out in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites.
Campo Carlo Magno is where the famous men’s World Cup race (the 3-Tre) was held, the race that made Madonna di Campiglio famous around the world. Hotels in this area are generally upmarket and cater for demanding skiers.

Pinzolo: the budget base in the same ski area
Twelve kilometres from Madonna di Campiglio, lower down the valley, is Pinzolo: a larger, less touristy town with much lower prices. Pinzolo is linked to the Skirama Dolomiti system by its own Pinzolo-Campiglio Express lift, which climbs to Doss del Sabion.

The alpine skiing World Cup race (the 3-Tre) is usually held in Madonna di Campiglio in December. On race weekend hotel prices soar and rooms sell out months in advance. If you want to watch the race, book the summer before.
For normal high-season weeks (January-February), book at least 2-3 months ahead. For Christmas and New Year, 4-6 months ahead.

Is Madonna di Campiglio good for beginners?
Yes, with some caveats. The easiest blue runs are in the Cinque Laghi and Grostè areas. Complete beginners will find excellent magic carpets and top-class ski schools in the centre. However, most slopes are intermediate (red), so absolute beginners may find the choice a little limited compared with more family-friendly areas such as Folgarida-Marilleva (in the same ski area) or Kronplatz.
How much is a ski pass in Madonna di Campiglio?
An adult day pass for the Skirama Dolomiti ski area costs around €55-65 depending on the period. A 6-day pass costs about €290-330. There is a cheaper pass valid only for Madonna di Campiglio (without Pinzolo and Folgarida). Children under 8 and over-75s often ski free or at a big discount.
How do you get to the rest of Skirama?
From Madonna di Campiglio you can ski towards Folgarida/Marilleva via the Pancugolo cable car, or towards Pinzolo using the runs that go down to Passo Carlo Magno. There is no direct cable car link between Campiglio and Pinzolo: you have to go down to the valley and take the Pinzolo-Doss del Sabion gondola back up. By bus or car, Campiglio to Pinzolo takes about 20 minutes.
When should I book for the 3-Tre World Cup race?
The 3-Tre race is usually held between December and January. To stay in central Campiglio on race weekend, you need to book in the summer (June-August) before. Nearby places such as Pinzolo and the villages of Val Rendena have more availability but still sell out quickly.
