How much does it cost to ride up the Aiguille du Midi, and when does the first cabin leave? We have put the 2026 prices and the opening times for each period, as published by the Chamonix Tourist Office, into tables, alongside the operator’s own price list. All figures were checked on 24 August 2026. At altitude, times can change because of wind or maintenance, so check the live lift status the day before you go.

Three things worth knowing before you buy:
- Prices are dynamic. The operator’s rates page, aiguilledumidi.montblancnaturalresort.com (checked 24 August 2026), gives an adult return ‘from €60.20 to €83.00’ for 1 June-30 November 2026, a single ‘from €51.20 to €70.60’ and the family ticket ‘from €186.70 to €257.40’. The prices in the table are therefore the full peak-season fares: book early or travel in low season and you can pay less.
- The shorter ride from Chamonix to the mid-station at Plan de l’Aiguille costs €43.00 return for adults, €36.60 for children and €133.40 for a family (same source). It is the right choice if you only want to walk the Balcon Nord without going up to 3,842 m.
- Free travel for under-5s must be requested at the ticket office with proof of age; it cannot be applied to online bookings (same source).
Aiguille du Midi opening times 2026
Times as published on it.chamonix.com (checked 24 August 2026). The last return departure is the latest time you can leave Chamonix and still have time to come back down.

Cabins run continuously or every 15 or 30 minutes depending on demand. In peak summer the last one-way ascent is at 17:30 and the last ride down at 18:00 (operator’s rates and times page, checked 24 August 2026). Service always depends on the weather.
Background: the 2025/26 winter window
Mont-Blanc Natural Resort’s annual table gave the Aiguille du Midi an opening window from 20 December 2025 to 31 May 2026. At the end of May 2026 the Chamonix terrace above the 3842 restaurant was closed for waterproofing work expected to last 4-5 weeks, while the rest of the summit visit stayed open. This information is now out of date: for the current season use the tables above, and for the reopening after 18 December 2026 see the annual openings page.
Planning your visit
- The evening before, check the weather and wind at altitude and the live lift status.
- In July and August, book your ascent time in advance: the first departure at 06:10 also has the shortest queue and the best visibility.
- Allow at least two hours for the ride up, the terraces and the ride down, and keep an eye on the last return departure for your period.
- Bring a jacket and gloves even in August: at 3,842 m it feels very different from Chamonix.
