On 21 July 2026 the Autonomous Province of Trento presented the building site for the new lift link between San Martino di Castrozza and Passo Rolle. The figures come from the official press release.

The lift

  • Two linked 10-seat gondolas, 4.6 km long in total.
  • 13 minutes from Bellaria to Passo Rolle without changing cabins.
  • Capacity of 1,500 people per hour, which can be raised to 1,800.
  • Four stations: Bellaria, Prà delle Nasse, Fosse di Sopra and Passo Rolle, plus a technical stop at Sass Maor.
  • 33 towers, with a main span of 290 m.

The group of contractors is led by Leitner Spa together with Collini Lavori, Misconel and Grisenti; the client is Trentino Sviluppo. The project is worth €55 million. Provincial president Fugatti, councillors Failoni and Ballardini and mayor Depaoli attended the presentation.

When it opens

Completion is expected in 2029. Until then you reach Passo Rolle by car or public transport, and in winter there is no ski link between the two sides.

Why it matters

Today San Martino and Passo Rolle are two separate areas, each with its own lifts (the ones mapped on OpenStreetMap are on our San Martino di Castrozza lifts page). From 2029, if you stay in the village you will be able to ride the gondola up to the pass, summer and winter, and the Rolle will no longer be a place only drivers can reach. We will follow the progress of the work over the coming seasons.
