When do Italian ski lifts open for winter 2026/27? On 22 September 2026 we checked 21 Italian ski areas, looking for their dates on the official websites (a few of those sites could not be accessed, and we say so in each case). Seven have already published their season dates, Plan de Corones has published its price-list period, and the others have not announced anything yet. For each resort you will find the date, the page we took it from and, where the opening has not been announced yet, last season’s date. That date is a reference only, not a forecast.
These are the dates announced by the lift operators. The actual opening depends on snow: it can be postponed, or start with only part of the slopes.

Some details from the same pages:
- Breuil-Cervinia, closing date: on the same cervinia.it page, the banner at the top gives the closing as 5 May 2027, while the box on opening periods gives a winter season from 24 October 2026 to 2 May 2027. Until the operator clarifies, we show both dates.
- Cervinia publishes three separate calendars: Breuil-Cervinia from 24 October, Valtournenche from 28 November, Chamois and Torgnon on some weekends only (28-29 November, 5-8 December, 12-13 December), then daily from 19 December 2026 to 29 March 2027. The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing link is closed for maintenance until 23 October 2026 and again from 7 January to 26 February 2027.
- Monterosa Ski: the 28 November date applies to the lifts linking Champoluc and Frachey, Staffal and Alagna. Brusson, Antagnod and Gressoney-Saint-Jean open on 5-8 and 12-13 December, then daily from 19 December 2026 to 14 March 2027, plus 20-21 March and 26-29 March 2027; Champorcher on the same December weekends, then daily from 19 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. For Alpe di Mera the calendar is listed as ‘to be updated’.
- Kronplatz has not published a separate opening date. Its 2026/27 price list covers 28 November 2026 to 11 April 2027, with the low-season rate until 19 December. We report it as the ticket season, not as a guarantee that every slope will be open on day one.
- Bormio: the Bormio - Bormio 2000 gondola runs from 08:30 to 17:00 (last ride up 16:30), the cable car to Cima Bianca from 08:30 to 16:45. More in our Bormio lifts guide and Bormio ski pass page.
Resorts that have not announced their dates yet
These ski areas had not published their 2026/27 opening on 22 September 2026. The ‘last season’ column is only a reference: it shows what happened in 2025/26, not when the lifts will open this year.

Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba, Val di Fassa, Cortina and Kronplatz are part of Dolomiti Superski. The Dolomiti Superski 2026/27 price list, also published on kronplatz.com, sets the low season from 28 November to 19 December 2026 and the last price period until 11 April 2027. That is not the opening date of each valley: every valley announces its own, depending on snow. We will update the table when they do.
Glaciers and early openings
If you want to ski before November, the options are few and almost all at high altitude.
- Cervinia, Plateau Rosa: Breuil-Cervinia opens on Saturday 24 October 2026, together with Solda the earliest date among the resorts we follow (cervinia.it, checked on 22 September 2026). - Solda: winter season from 24 October 2026 to 2 May 2027, cable car from 08:45 to 16:30 (seilbahnensulden.it). The summer season is listed until 27 September 2026.
- Val Senales: training is under way on the glacier. The official site lists the first cable car at 07:15, reserved for coaches, and the Grawand chairlift and slope from 07:30 to 12:30; for free skiing it refers to the phone number +39 0473 662171 (valsenales.com, checked on 22 September 2026). The opening date of the whole ski area is not published on the official site, so we do not give one.
- Passo Tonale, Presena glacier: no 2026/27 opening date on the official site on 22 September 2026.

The 8 December holiday weekend
This year 8 December (the Immaculate Conception, a public holiday in Italy) falls on a Tuesday, so the long weekend runs from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 8 December 2026. Among the official dates already published, Bormio opens on Friday 4 December and Monterosa Ski opens Brusson, Antagnod, Gressoney-Saint-Jean and Champorcher from 5 to 8 December. For a weekend on the snow at the end of November there are the 28 November openings: Livigno, Courmayeur, La Thuile, Valtournenche, Monterosa Ski and the start of the Kronplatz price list.
How to check whether the lifts are open
An opening date announced in September does not tell you which slopes will actually run on the day. Before you travel:
- Open the operator’s live page the evening before. Most ski areas publish open lifts and slopes every morning: for Madonna di Campiglio there is ski.it, for Paganella the lifts and hours page, for Abetone the report on multipassabetone.it, updated by 08:30 on public holidays and by 09:00 on weekdays.
- Check the lift you need, not just the village. Early in the season often only the high sectors open. Our lift guides list every lift in each resort, for example Livigno or Val Gardena.
- Look at webcams and mountain weather, especially for October and November openings: snow in the village does not mean snow on the slopes, and wind can stop cable cars.
Ski passes: prices already published
Some operators have already put their 2026/27 price lists online: Cervinia, Pontedilegno-Tonale (since 3 September 2026), Alpe Cimbra, Kronplatz and Dolomiti Superski. We do not list discounts or presales that we have not verified on official pages. Frequently asked questions
When do ski lifts open in Italy for winter 2026/27?
The first are Breuil-Cervinia and Solda, on Saturday 24 October 2026. Livigno, Courmayeur, La Thuile, Valtournenche and Monterosa Ski open on 28 November 2026, Bormio on 4 December 2026. The other resorts we follow had not announced their date on 22 September 2026.
When does Dolomiti Superski open?
On 22 September 2026 the valleys had not yet published their opening dates. The Dolomiti Superski 2026/27 price list starts on 28 November 2026 (low season until 19 December) and runs until 11 April 2027, but each valley opens depending on snow.
How late can you ski in 2027?
Among the official dates: Breuil-Cervinia until 2 or 5 May 2027 (the official site gives both dates), Solda until 2 May 2027, Valtournenche until 25 April 2027. Courmayeur, La Thuile, Monterosa Ski and Bormio close on 11 April 2027. Livigno says the season lasts ‘until early May’; its 2026/27 price list runs until 2 May 2027.
Are opening dates guaranteed?
No. They depend on natural and machine-made snow, and early in the season usually only part of the slopes is open. Check the operator’s page the day before you travel.
